International Jan Koetsier Competition 2012

On November 10 and 11, 2012, the VIII. International Jan Koetsier Competition for Brass Chamber Music will take place in the University of Music and Performing Arts Munich. In 2012 the category again is Brass Quintet.
The competition is open to brass quintets with an average age of not more than 27 years. The jury – Wolfram Arndt, Oswald Beaujean, Hannes Läubin, Dr. Michael Oehme, Branimir Slokar, Josef Steinböck, Eric Terwilliger and James Thompson – decides on prizes totalling € 10.500 plus a programme broadcast on a German radio station.

Impressions from the Koetsier Competition 2010

Das Ensemble „LJO-Brass“ was awarded the second prize in the International Jan Koetiser Competition 2010 (the first prize was not awarded). Felix Schauren and Johannes Leiner (trumpet), Jared Scott (horn), Bruno Wipfler (trombone) und Constantin Hartwig (tuba) are pre-students at German Universitys of Music and members of the youth symphony orchestra Rheinland-Pfalz. The third prize was awarded the French Ensemble „Smart is Brass“ with Remy Labarthe and Pierre Désolé (trumpet), Guillaume Begni (horn), Jean Baptiste Lacou (trombone) und Florian Coutet (tuba). 11 ensembles from Germany, USA, France and Hungary participated in the competition.

The competition takes place every two years and is organized jointly by the Jan Koetsier Foundation and the University of Music and Performing Arts Munich.
