JAN KOETSIER STIFTUNG an der Hochschule für Musik und Theater München

Jan Koetsier (1911–2006) set up a foundation in 1993 which he handed over to the Hochschule für Musik und Theater, Munich, in 1999. The purpose of the foundation is to support students of trumpet, horn, trombone and tuba, to promote brass chamber music and to administer the International Jan Koetsier Competition, which has led to outstanding artistic achievements in recent years.
With the launch of this website, the Hochschule remembers the life and work of Koetsier the composer and conductor, who, as Professor of Conducting trained young conductors and directed the Hochschule Orchestra from 1966 to 1976.

The Hochschule wishes to thank the musicologist Stephanie Mauder for permission to use her catalogue of works and texts on Jan Koetsier, which were written as part of her dissertation project at the Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität (LMU) Munich. The dissertation „Der Komponist und Dirigent Jan Koetsier. Studien zum Werk und zu seiner Zeit beim Bayerischen Rundfunk” [The composer and conductor Jan Koetsier. Studies on his works and his time at Bavarian Radio] was published in 2012 as Vol. 6 in Studien zur Geschichte des Bayerischen Rundfunks by Peter Lang Verlag. The indices „Aufnahmen des BR mit Jan Koetsier als Dirigent” [Recordings for BR with Jan Koetsier as conductor], „Aufnahmen des BR mit Kompositionen von Jan Koetsier” [Recordings for BR with compositions by Jan Koetsier] mentioned in the dissertation, as well as „CD-Aufnahmen mit Kompositionen von Jan Koetsier” [CD recordings with compositions by Jan Koetsier], are included as supplements with the biography of Jan Koetsier.
